In order to have a winning content marketing strategy, you need to be deliberate. You can’t just ‘wing it’ and expect to be effective. In this article, we’ll discuss the 3 key elements of a winning content marketing strategy.
Setting the right type of goals
I’m sure you have heard of SMART goals. To be honest, there are SMART goals and there are nonSMART goals. nonSMART goals are goals that don’t fit the S.M.A.R.T. guidelines. What does that mean?
- SMART goals are Specific / Significant
- SMART goals are Measurable / Meaningful
- SMART goals are Achievable / Acceptable
- SMART goals are Realistic / Rewarding
- SMART goals are Time-based / Tangible
Having SMART goals will help you achieve your goals faster. By incorporating SMART goals, you are basically focusing on what can help you achieve your goals. There will still be some trial and error to see what works best for your business but you’ll still be closer to your goals than if you didn’t have goals in place.

Building an audience persona
Not knowing who you are creating content for has caused many content marketing strategies to fall flat. You should always choose quality over quantity when creating content. One of the best ways to ensure quality is by knowing who your audience is. With this knowledge, you will be able to create content that most appeals to to your target audience. You will be able to identify with your ideal clients’ pain points and their needs; presenting yourself as an authority. Failure to create an audience persona, though, could cause you to waste time and energy putting content together, for nothing.

Creating shareable and worthwhile content
The final ingredient to a winning content marketing strategy is the content itself. No surprise there, huh? By creating content that hits the mark with your audience, it will be easier to get them to follow your call to action, whatever that is.With this strategy, you will be seen as an authority and your readers will want to sign up for your email list, download your freebie, or join your training. They’ll also be more likely to listen to your recommendations, making it easier to monetize your content by inserting your own products or other brands’ products you’re affiliated with.
